Thomas Teichmann was born in 1968 and grew up in the beautiful, historic market town of Altenburg, located to the south of Leipzig, deep within former East Germany. In many ways, Tom had an idyllic childhood full of innocence and dreams and always longing to travel the world and visiting far flung places like those of his hero Charles Darwin. His interest in photography began when he was given his grandfather's old Box Brownie camera with which he explored the world around him.
As Tom grew up he realised that living behind the Iron Curtain meant that he would probably never be able to realise those dreams of traveling the world. However, when Tom was 21, dramatic political changes in the late 1980s culminated in the fall of The Wall in 1989. With the world now wide open and a hunger for adventure, he could now realise his dreams.
