Poetry with Elevenses: Darlleniad / Reading gan Cyril Jones & Hilaire Wood

  • Penrallt Gallery Bookshop Heol Pen'Rallt Machynlleth, SY20 8AJ United Kingdom

This special reading by two of our bookshop's favourite poets, Cyril Jones and Hilaire Wood, will be a relaxed opportunity to listen to their most recent work over coffee and cake. They'll be joined by Mary Jacob before her workshop the same afternoon. See Calendar.

Cyril Jones is a native of Dyffryn Arth and he won the National Eisteddfod Crown at Aberystwyth in 1992. He has had his work published in numerous poetry collections. Eco’r Gweld, his latest collection of poetry, was published in 2012. In 2015, his collaboration with artist Philip Huckin produced the illustrated book, 'Hud Afon Arth', launched at the exhibition here at Pen'rallt Gallery Bookshop.  Few contemporary poets can match Cyril Jones at demonstrating the richness of the Welsh poetic metres. More usually writing and reading in Welsh, Cyril sometimes re-interprets his work into English, always offering insightful observations on the mutability of poetic 'translation'. He tutors and lectures part-time at the University of South Wales.

Hilaire Wood set up Brigit's Forge to publish her first poetry booklet, The Sea Road (2012),  and Jane Whittle's The Goddess and the Gardener (2013). Both were launched here at the bookshop. Hilaire was born and grew up in Yorkshire and settled in West Wales in 1977. As well as poetry she writes about Celtic mythology and religion.

Darlleniad/Reading gan Cyril Jones, Hilaire Wood – coffi a chacen / coffee & cake Saesneg/Cymraeg 11 ar gyfer/for 11.15 - 12noon.
