'The Curlew's Cry' Tia Jones

We welcome Tia Jones, author and organic hill-farmer, to introduce and discuss her latest book The Curlew's Cry.

Tia Jones writes from the heart and from experience, providing a much needed 21st Century and unromanticised view of the personal and social history of the Welsh hill-farmer as 'peasant and guardian' of the land. Essential reading if you want to appreciate the land and people who farm it, now, in this part of Wales.

Tia has written for television and radio and has been a regular contributor to The Daily Post as an equine columnist, Tia‘s first novel, On Open Ground, was published in 2008 by Gomer and rapidly became a favourite. Set in post-War rural Wales, it explores the impact of unspoken truths in an isolated and superstitious community. Followed by The Moss Gatherers, (2013).

Two important themes in my books are roots and a sense of continuity using the backdrop of rural Wales. The old fashioned word ‘hefted’ ie. tied to a place, ‘cynefin’ in Welsh meaning familiar habitat. ie be at home in.
