Christopher Meredith is an award-winning novelist, poet and translator. Visiting author for this month’s FIRST THURSDAY Christopher will introduce and read from his work.
The lifelong preoccupation with individual lives in the wider historical process is something writers from industrial Wales before him have wrestled with, Raymond Williams for one; his groundbreaking first novel, Shifts, is regarded as a modern classic, achieved this.
Christopher has broadcast on radio and TV and given readings all over Britain and Europe, Israel/Palestine and the USA. Speaking at The Hay Festival many times, the Edinburgh Festival, the Ledbury Poetry Festival, the London Book Fair, the Leipzig Book Fair, the Gasteig in Munich, The Goethe Institute in Brussels, and at the Writers and Teachers' Centre in Manhattan, New York.
Born and brought up in Tredegar, he has been a steelworker, a schoolteacher and a university professor and now writes full time. His most recent book is Brief Lives - six fictions. His newest collection of poems is Air Histories.
