You are invited to join a free workshop of participatory entertainment. Play Surrealist games using poetry in the beautiful and unique environment of the Museum of Modern Art in Machynlleth. We will use words from our own imaginations and other sources to combine them into verbal collages.

Mererid Hopwood

The first woman to win the prestigious Chair at the National Eisteddfod in 2001, Mererid has since won the National Crown and continues to be in great demand as a poet, tutor and television presenter. She is also a highly accomplished translator, mainly working between German and Welsh. She is also a Fellow of the Academi.

'In sight of the sea - poetry inspired by island and coastal living' - Caroline Clark, Aberystwyth poet and short story writer will read poetry inspired by her coastal location.  Angela Gregory, the sister of Caldey Island Cistercian monk, Brother David, will read from his collections 'The Music of the Ocean' and 'On the Seventh Wave' (2016).

Damian Gorman – 'Devices Of Detachment', Barddoniaeth ar y Teledu / poem-for-TV

When the Troubles in Northern Ireland were still 'live', Damian Gorman made 'DEVICES OF DETACHMENT', a verse documentary for BBC2 exploring the role of the non-combatant in a time of conflict.  The film was described by leading critics as 'a television masterpiece' and 'a work of great integrity'.

The Word Distillery Poets

The Word Distillery Poets perform regularly in Aberystwyth, across the UK and as individuals or in pairs, most recently in London – at the Poetry Place, Covent Garden, The London Welsh Centre and, this month, in Liverpool.  Founded as Poetryworks in 2005 by Stuart Jones to encourage local poets to workshop their poems in preparation for publication, their 10th anniversary anthology 'Distillations' was published in 2015 and will be available at the event.
