POETRY WORKSHOP - PROTEST & POEMS FOR GRENFELL TOWER

The Transformative Power of Words – a series of four, stand-alone, workshops with visiting poet and educator, Lindy Newns.

Each workshop will take a theme suggested by a line from a poem and cover caring, conflict, celebration and protest. The range of dates, include one Saturday and at different weekdays, variously in the new gallery, the bookshop and the MoMA cafe.

Writing of place, out of place, into place: WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE DAY workshop with Eric Ngalle Charles

Eric Ngalle Charles is a poet, dramatist, novelist and member of Wales PEN Cymru. He fled Cameroon and spent years as an illegal immigrant in Russia before making it to the UK in 1999, where he claimed asylum. Eric's new book Asylum features people he has met through the creative writing classes he runs at the Welsh Refugee Centre, where he has helped more recent refugees arriving in Cardiff to use writing to get over the trauma of being displaced.

LIFE WRITING WORKSHOPS/GWEITHDAI YSGRIFENNU BYWYD
Tuesdays, monthly, begins 11 October
If you write, or would like to write, from life - memoir, biography, travel writing, nature writing, family history - come along to our monthly guided writing workshops in Pen'rallt Gallery Bookshop. (Bydd y sesiynau yn cael eu cynnal yn Saesneg, ond gobeithio y gall y cynghorion, technegau, ymarferion a syniadau gael eu cymhwyso i ysgrifennu mewn unrhyw iaith.)

  • Your tutor will offer tips, techniques and writing exercises.

  • Pen'rallt Gallery Bookshop will offer tea, biscuits and an inspiring environment.

  • Your fellow scribes will provide company, encouragement and new ideas.

Four monthly workshops on Tuesdays: 11 October, 8 November, 13 December 2016 & 10 January 2017
£10 per session (£36 for all four paid in advance).

Your tutor: Helen Pendry has taught writing in Higher Education for many years and has also worked as an associate editor. With the support of a Literature Wales bursary, she is currently working on a novel which combines historical biography and fiction.

N.B. The workshops are suitable for those who have attended the Life Writing 1 and 2 courses, as well as those who are new to life writing.
