Yn ogystal â chadw ar y blaen gydag archebion a ddosberthir drwy’r post a’u dosbarthu’n lleol ar droed ac ar ein beiciau, rydyn ni hefyd wedi penderfynu defnyddio cyfran fechan o’r grant busnes o £1000 gan Lywodraeth Cymru, mawr yw’r croeso iddo, a dderbyniwyd drwy Gyngor Llyfrau Cymru ar ddechrau hyn oll i lenwi ffenestri ein siop lyfrau â llyfrau sydd am ddim i blant.

Rhaid i’r plant fynd drwy’r broses o ddewis llyfr, nodi eu dewis, eu henwau a’r slot amser arbennig pryd y byddan nhw’n ei godi (weithiau byddan nhw’n gorfod dod yn ôl drannoeth gyda phapur a phensil) ac yna gwthio eu nodyn o dan ddrws y siop lyfrau – i gyd yn rhan o’r broses gan osgoi ychwanegu at fewnflwch yr e-byst sydd eisoes yn bochio i’r ymylon.

Byddwn ni’n pinio’r nodyn i’r bwrdd negeseuon, yn chwilio am y llyfr – ddim yn hawdd bob amser o’n hochr ni i’r ffenest (gan lenwi’r lle gwag â theitl arall – tra pery’r stociau…), Byddwn yn lapio’r llyfr (yn rhifynnau ailgylchedig o’r Stamp, Golwg neu Booktime) gan gynnwys llyfrnod, cerdyn post Tir na n-Og 2020, a’i labelu’n glir ag enw’r plentyn cyn ei osod ar yr adeg benodedig yn y crêt plastig agored ar garreg ddrws y siop lyfrau.

Mae’n gweithio i’r dim gan ein cadw ninnau’n siriol iawn hefyd. Yn raddol, mae’r cynllun yn ennill ei blwyf ymhlith plant lleol, gyda’r rhai hŷn yn aml yn cyrraedd ar eu beiciau a’u helmedau ar eu pennau (gyda phapur a phensil – mae’r gair yn mynd ar led) gan graffu drwy’r ffenest ac weithiau hefyd yn dewis cyfrolau i’w brodyr a’u chwiorydd iau. Mae’n andros o hwyl gweld hyn o’r tu mewn os ydyn ni’n digwydd bod yn gweithio i lawr grisiau (rydyn ni’n byw uwchben y siop ac mae hyn wedi bod o gryn fantais). Felly, diolch i Lywodraeth Cymru / Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru! Ô.N. Nid yn unig ei bod yn dda gwybod bod hyn yn rhoi hwb arbennig i’r plant i ddarllen, ond, o bryd i’w gilydd, gallwn ni hyrwyddo teitl newydd a gwobrau Tir na n-Og
i fraenaru’r tir ar gyfer gwerthiant yn y dyfodol. Hyn oll yn rhan o dyfu cadarnhaol.

Whilst keeping up with orders delivered by post and local deliveries walking and on our bikes, we’ve also decided to use a small portion of the very welcome business grant of £1000 from the Welsh Governmment via the Books Council Wales at the beginning of all this to fill our bookshop windows with books that are free for children.

The children have to go through the process of choosing a book, writing their choice, their name and the particular timeslot when they will pick it up (sometimes having to come back next day with pencil and paper), then slipping their note under the bookshop door. All part of the process, so not adding to our already bursting email-box.

We pin the note onto the message board, locate the book - not always easy from the wrong side of the window (and fill the empty space with another title - while stocks last . . .). We wrap the book (in recycled Y Stamp, Golwg or Booktime) inserting a book mark, a Tir na n-Og 2020 postcard, labelling it clearly with the child’s name before placing it at the appointed hour in the open plastic crate on the bookshop doorstep.

It works beautifully well, keeping us very cheerful too. Gradually it is catching on with local children, the older ones often arrive on their bikes and in helmets (with paper and pencil - word's getting around) and stand peering into the window, sometimes also deciding and choosing for younger siblings. So much fun to see this from inside if we happen to be working downstairs (we live above our bookshop and this has been such an advantage). So, thank you Welsh Government/Books Council of Wales! P.S. Not only is it good to know that this especially encourages the children to read, but we are able to promote the occasional new title and the Tir na n-Og awards to seed future sales. All part of positive growing.

THE BOOKSHOP IS KEEPING SAFE FOR A FEW WEEKS, MAYBE MORE, BUT WE ARE BUSY TAKING BOOK ORDERS TO POST OR DELIVER
